Website Loading Time

Why a fast website is IMPORTANT!!

Website visitors tend to care more about speed than all the bells and whistles we want to add to our websites. Additionally, page loading time is becoming a more important factor when it comes to search engine rankings.

Seems like a strange thing to worry about, but the speed of your site affects every metric you care about.

  • Bounce rate
  • Search ranking
  • Conversion
  • Page views
  • Reader satisfaction, and
  • Revenue

Facts and Stats:

  • 73% of mobile internet users say that they’ve encountered a website that was too slow to load.
  • 51% of mobile internet users say that they’ve encountered a website that crashed, froze, or received an error.
  • 38% of mobile internet users say that they’ve encountered a website that wasn’t available.
  • 47% of consumers expect a web page to load in 2 seconds or less.
  • 40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load.
  • A 1 second delay in page response can result in a 7% reduction in conversions.
  • If an e-commerce site is making $100,000 per day, a 1 second page delay could potentially cost you $2.5 million in lost sales every year.

Testing your sites speed

Before you start increasing the speed of your website, you need to know how fast your website it. Use the tools below to understand how fast (or slow) your website is.

  1. 1.      Page Speed Insights

Drop your URL into the text box click “Submit,” and you’ll get an instant report of your site’s performance. You’ll see a list of recommendations that are broken down into high-, medium- or low-priority. A must use.

  1. 2.      Google Analytics Plugin by Yoast (for WordPress.org users)

Joost de Valk of Yoast.com created a Google Analytics plugin that includes a Site Speed feature, too. Performance reports will show you how quickly or slowly your page loads across different browsers and around the world.

  1. 3.      Pingdom Website Speed Test

If you want to test individual pages, Pingdom can deliver. The nice thing about Pingdom is that your results will reflect real-world conditions, because the tests are performed on real browsers like Chrome.

  1. 4.      Web Page Test

The really cool thing about Webpagetest is that you can even select your location and browser. Ideal unlike the other tools which may test the tool in areas with faster connections.
